This is an ONAK
Our canoe combines new material with an innovative folding technique.
You can even transport the canoe by bike.
Our boat, with which we set sail, is an ONAK, an innovative folding canoe in a special lightweight construction. The ONAK was found as part of a kick-start campaign in 2016 and was delivered in May 2017. Our canoe is one of the first 206 copies.
The special feature: it can be folded up so compactly that you can transport it comfortably by car, train and airplane. Even behind your bike you can pull it. The canoe even fits packed on top of your closet in the living room. ; -)
Here you can see the rather unusual folding technique that distinguishes the extremely robust ONAK from conventional folding canoes. The canoe can be set up completely within 10 minutes. The honeycomb structure in combination with a thermally moulded composite material ensures that the canoe is 10 times more stable than a conventional canoe.
Folded, the canoe measures 120 x 40 x 25 cm and can be stowed away nearly everywhere. Built up, it measures awesome 465 cm x 85 cm.
The ONAK weighs only 17 kg and is extremely robust and stable thanks to its honeycomb structure.
It only takes you 10 minutes to set up the canoe. Try this with a conventional folding canoe!
As light and filigree as the ONAK may seem, it is a barge, as it can carry 2 people weighing up to 250 kg.
Thanks to the ingenious folding technique and the stable honeycomb structure, the ONAK can be folded up so space-savingly that you can practically pull it along like a luggage van. The canoe is so handyly packed that you can transport it by car, train or even airplane. And when you come back from your paddling tour, you simply stow it under your bed. Try a conventional canoe. ; -)
The canoe is so stable that you can even crack a 1 cm thick layer of ice with it. We haven’t tried that yet (we’re more like fair weather paddlers), but the makers of the ONAK have already tested it and recorded it in this film.
If you also feel like paddling with your own ONAK, you can have a look here.
